Reader ‘Dreaming of Heaven’
Artistic ceramic sculpture

Gracefully reclining in a pose reminiscent of yoga or the sweet abandon of childhood, this reader invites us to a moment of suspension. She wears a romantic, loose dress, painted like an open sky: blue and soft as a cloud, criss-crossed by flocks of birds in flight. Everything about her speaks of dreams, freedom and silence.

Next to his open book, the pages seem to come to life in his hands, while tiny butterflies dance lightly, accomplices of his inner journey. It is an invitation to imagination, to contemplation, to the simple pleasure of reading and beauty.

Technical notes
The sculpture is hand-modelled in pink clay, decorated with engobes and glazes. 

The sculpture underwent two firings.

‘Reader Dreaming of Heaven’ is a sculpture about the lightness of the soul and the depth of dreams. A work that speaks to the heart of those who still know how to lose themselves between the pages of a book... and find themselves in a sky to be imagined.The little face is as small as a hazelnut. The curls are applied one by one and are made of delicate strips of clay rolled on themselves.

The skin is left in natural clay, while the coloured parts have been painted with different hues of engobes (slips) in order to create delicate nuances and plays of colour. I really like playing with colours and decorations.
