Riding the waves

My love for the sea is a bit strange, I don't like swimming much, at most I float awkwardly, I don't like sunbathing or perching on a deckchair, yet its call is strong and irresistible to me.

I love its colours, its power and its boundless grandeur. I like its sweet song so much that to help me sleep I put on the sound of the sea waves on the shoreline in the background.

I prefer the sea in winter or in the mid-seasons, when the beach is deserted. I like to walk on the sinuous lines that the flat waves create by wetting the beach.

I like to think about the creatures that inhabit its depths, their ability to move quickly with grace and fluidity, weightless and darting. Colourful, cheerful and carefree immersed in the brightest greens and blues.

Technical notes
The sculpture is hand-modelled in pink clay, decorated with engobes and glazes.

The sculpture underwent two firings.

The face is as small as a hazelnut and modelled by hand.

The skin is left in natural clay, while the coloured parts have been painted with different hues of engobes (slips) in order to create delicate nuances and plays of colour. I really like playing with colours and decorations.

I applied glossy and satin enamels
