As a child, I dreamed of having a chicken, possibly black, as a pet. My mother, however, was not of the same opinion and opted for canaries instead. I often imagine falling asleep with a book in my hand and a hen silently watching over me, protecting my favorite books under her wings.
PS: In the end, I chose to imagine my hen in brightly coloured checked plumage 🧡💚, instead of black 🖤!
Technical notes
The sculpture is hand-modelled in pink clay, decorated with engobes and glazes.
It faced two cooking processes at 960° and 980°
The face is as small as a hazelnut and modelled by hand. The curls are applied one at a time and are made of delicate strips of clay rolled up on themselves.
The skin is left in natural clay, while the coloured parts have been painted with different hues of engobes (slips) in order to create delicate nuances and plays of colour. I really like playing with colours and decorations.
I applied glossy and satin enamels
